About two years ago, a teenager saw Sahara listed as a "rescue" in a retail pet store (not PetSmart, but one of the stores that sells purebred puppies and kitties). We aren't sure where the store got Sahara, but we got to witness what happens when the outcome of a placement isn't considered. The store gave Sahara free of charge on the condition the teenager purchase all her supplies at the store. After spending her allowance on supplies, she took Sahara home to give to a family member as a present. You can guess the rest of the story: the parents of the teenager did not want a new cat in the house and hadn't given their permission. They told the teen to take the cat back to the pet store immediately. The pet store refused to take the cat back! So, Sahara made it to the doorstep of a Heartland fosterer, where she was taken in, vetted and cared for and she is now looking for a new home. Sahara is a big girl; she weighs about 10 pounds. She has been through a lot and is quite shy with people and prefers to be an only pet. We know this makes her difficult to find a home for, but we are hoping someone will find it in their hearts to give her a comfy place to call home so she never again has to worry where she'll sleep at night. She is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed and on flea and tick preventative.
